Morteros is a town in the San Justo department in north-eastern Córdoba province, Argentina, close to the border with Santa Fe. It lies in one of the country's most important dairy regions, and milk production and processing have long been central to its economy. Mar Chiquita, the largest salt lake in Argentina, lies a short distance to the west.
Like many towns founded during the agricultural colonisation of the pampas, Morteros follows a strict grid. On a map, square blocks run in neat rows around a central plaza, with a few wider avenues giving structure. At the edges, the grid meets the surrounding countryside abruptly, and rural roads continue the same rectilinear logic across the flat, open fields.
