Mostovskoy lies in the southeast of Krasnodar Krai, on the Laba River as it leaves the mountains. On a map the settlement stretches along the river valley. A grid of residential streets fills the flatter ground, and roads follow the water upstream toward the higher, forested ridges of the western Caucasus.
The settlement is the centre of Mostovsky District, a largely rural area of farmland, forests and mountain villages. The district is known for its thermal springs and as a gateway to the forested uplands to the south, which draw hikers, walkers and holidaymakers for much of the year.
A Mostovskoy map poster combines the ordered blocks of the settlement with the braided course of the Laba and the looser lines of mountain roads. The river valley gives the composition a strong direction. You can see the shift from plain to foothills in the changing pattern of streets and fields.
