Mtinko is a rural area in the Singida Region of central Tanzania, on the high, dry plateau in the centre of the country. On the map, it does not look like a dense town. Homesteads are scattered across the land, linked by dirt roads and a network of footpaths, with fields and patches of bush between them.
The central plateau is a region of wide horizons, seasonal rains and farming adapted to a long dry season. Tracks lead from Mtinko towards Singida town and neighbouring villages. Low ridges and seasonal streams add variety to the landscape. The lines on the map are few and light, which gives the area a sense of openness.
