Mucur is a town in Kırşehir Province, on the high plateau of Central Anatolia. From above, it is compact and clearly bounded, surrounded by wide, largely treeless farmland. The centre has a denser tangle of older streets, while newer districts follow straighter lines, and a few main roads lead out across the steppe towards Kırşehir and Cappadocia.
Mucur is known for its underground city, a network of rock-cut rooms and passages beneath the town, related to the better-known underground settlements of nearby Cappadocia. The town also has a long tradition of handicrafts, including pottery. What the map cannot show below ground adds a quiet layer to the view from above.
