Nansana is a municipality in Wakiso District, just beyond Kampala's north-western edge. It has grown quickly as the capital has expanded, and much of it is residential: homes, small businesses and trading centres spread along the roads leading out of the city. From above, the built-up area reads as an irregular network rather than a planned grid, following the land rather than a ruler.
The terrain is typical of the country around Kampala, with rounded hills separated by low, damp valleys. Roads tend to run along ridges and hillsides, while the valley floors often remain wetland or open ground. On a map this creates a distinctive rhythm of dense streets interrupted by empty, winding bands where the land dips.
