Narauli is a small town in western Uttar Pradesh, in the Rohilkhand region of the Gangetic plain. The land here is almost perfectly flat and intensively farmed. On a map the town appears as a concentrated cluster of streets set in a wide field of rural roads, village tracks and scattered settlements.
The centre follows the pattern of many older north Indian market towns: narrow, closely packed lanes with few straight lines, opening onto a handful of wider roads that carry traffic in and out. Around this core, newer housing extends along the main approaches, giving the built area an uneven outline that tapers into the countryside.
