Nokha lies in Bikaner district in northwestern Rajasthan, on the flat, dry plains of the Thar Desert. From above, the town is a compact cluster of streets on open land, with few natural features to shape it. Roads and the railway line provide most of the structure, crossing the plain in long, straight lines.
The older centre has narrow, closely packed streets and market lanes, while newer areas spread outward in more regular blocks along the main roads. The edges of the town meet sandy ground and cultivated fields, so the settlement appears as a dense island in a wide, pale landscape.
