Nümbrecht is a municipality in the Oberbergischer Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia, set in the rolling hills of the Bergisches Land east of Cologne. It is recognised as a climatic health resort, a status that reflects its clean air and green surroundings. The municipality covers a wide area of hills, woods and meadows, with a main village and many small hamlets.
On a map, Nümbrecht looks quite different from a compact town. The central village has a modest cluster of streets, while dozens of smaller settlements are scattered across the landscape and linked by winding country roads. Those roads follow ridges and valleys, and they give the black-and-white print a flowing, organic rhythm rather than a grid.
Just outside the main village stands Schloss Homburg, a hilltop castle that once served as the seat of a small lordship and now houses a museum.
