Ortaköy is a district town in Aksaray province, in the high, open country of Central Anatolia. The landscape is wide and mostly treeless, with rolling land used for cereals and grazing under a very large sky. The town is compact and sits in this landscape as a clear, concentrated cluster of streets.
From above, the town is built around a central area of shops and public buildings, and residential streets spread out from it in a loose grid. Roads connect it to Aksaray and neighbouring districts, and they run across the plateau in long lines. Farmland surrounds the town in large patches, separated by field boundaries and tracks.
