Mile-square grid
Arterial roads divide the city into large regular squares. On the poster they form a strong framework that is instantly recognisable as Midwestern.

Overland Park Map Poster & Print
Overland Park lies in Johnson County, Kansas, southwest of Kansas City. It is one of the largest cities in Kansas, and its plan follows the classic American Midwest pattern. Major roads run on a mile grid, forming large squares, and each square is filled with neighbourhoods of curving streets and cul-de-sacs.
The historic downtown sits in the northern part of the city, with a small grid of older streets. Interstate 435 loops through, and US-69 cuts north–south. Farther south, the city continues onto open land, reaching the Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. Indian Creek and its trail wind across the grid diagonally.
An Overland Park map poster shows American suburban planning with unusual clarity. The strong lines of the arterial grid, the loops of the neighbourhoods inside them and the few natural corridors that cross the pattern make a surprisingly graphic image.

Cul-de-sac interiors
Inside each square, residential streets curve and loop. This gives the map a fine, intricate texture against the straight main roads.
Indian Creek
The creek and its trail cut across the grid at an angle. It is a green thread that breaks the regular pattern of the suburbs.
