Ózd Map Poster
Ózd lies in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, close to the Slovak border, among the wooded hills of northern Hungary. From above, it is not one compact town but a chain of districts laid out along valleys, joined by roads that twist through the hilly ground. Housing, former industrial land and forest alternate in long, irregular strips.
For much of the twentieth century Ózd was one of Hungary's main centres of iron and steel production, and the works drew workers from across the region. After the industry declined, the large former plant area remained at the heart of the town, and parts of it have since been reused for cultural and heritage purposes.
An Ózd map poster reflects that elongated, valley-bound shape. Instead of a central square with rings around it, you see threads of streets following the terrain, with the large industrial footprint marking the middle. It is an unusual composition and says a lot about how industry and landscape shaped the town.
