Parand is one of the new towns built around Tehran to take pressure off the capital. It sits on dry, open land southwest of the city, near Imam Khomeini International Airport. Unlike older Iranian towns, it was planned from the start. The map shows this at once: wide roads, sectioned neighbourhoods and blocks drawn with clear intent.
From above, Parand looks almost diagrammatic. Main avenues divide it into districts, and within each one the residential streets follow a regular geometry.
