Pāttyam lies in the Kannur district of northern Kerala, a short distance inland from the Malabar coast. Like much of rural Kerala, it has no sharp edge. Houses and lanes spread across low hills among coconut palms and gardens, so the map shows a fine, continuous web of small roads rather than a dense core. Streams and paddy land fill the lower ground between the ridges.
This scattered pattern is typical of the region, where villages and towns merge into one another along roads and ridgelines.
