Pecangaan is a district in Jepara Regency, on the flat lowlands near Java's north coast. It does not have a single urban centre. From above, it looks like a network of villages joined by lanes and roads, with rice fields and irrigation channels running between the settled areas.
The district is known for Troso, one of its villages, where ikat weaving is a long-standing craft. It sits in a region also famous for wood carving. On the map, the craft shows only indirectly: as dense clusters of houses and workshops along the lanes, surrounded by cultivated land.
