Periya Semūr lies on the north-western edge of Erode in Tamil Nadu, and for most purposes it now functions as part of the wider city. The map shows a mix of older residential lanes and newer layouts, with plots arranged along straight roads that were laid out as the town expanded. Beyond them, fields and scattered houses mark the transition from urban blocks to open land.
Erode is one of the major textile and turmeric trading centres of southern India, and the Kaveri River flows along the city's eastern side. Periya Semūr shares in that growth: roads here lead toward the centre of Erode and out to neighbouring towns, and the street pattern becomes denser each year as new housing fills the gaps between existing streets.
