Pfullingen lies just south of Reutlingen in Baden-Württemberg, where the Echaz valley cuts into the escarpment of the Swabian Alb. On the map, the town fills the valley floor, and its streets run roughly parallel to the stream. To the north it blends almost seamlessly into Reutlingen. To the south and east, wooded slopes stop the streets abruptly.
The Echaz is the main thread through the town. It is a small river, but it long powered mills and workshops and gave Pfullingen its shape. The steep edge of the Alb is always nearby, and on a detailed print the hills show up as an absence of streets, a dark or blank edge around a busy valley.
