Porur sits on the western side of Chennai, where the city's dense grid starts to thin into newer residential layouts. From above, the clearest structure is the road network: major arterials from the city centre meet here and fan outward toward the western suburbs, and the smaller lanes between them fill in densely, block by block.
The largest open shape on the map is Porur Lake, a wide body of water that has long served as a source for the city's supply. Its uneven shoreline stands out against the tight texture of housing around it and anchors the whole composition.
