Field-edge lanes
Many roads follow the boundaries of fields and old paths. On the map they curve and branch in a pattern that looks natural rather than planned.

Pudunagaram Map Poster & Print
Pudunagaram lies in Palakkad district in Kerala, in the broad lowlands that lead to the Palakkad Gap in the Western Ghats. The town has no rigid plan. Its roads follow older lanes and field boundaries, with houses built along them and in clusters where they meet. Around the settled area, the map fills with paddy fields, irrigation channels and groves of trees.
Palakkad is often described as the rice bowl of Kerala, and the land around Pudunagaram reflects that. Fields dominate the landscape, and small water courses divide them. The town is a local centre for the villages around it, and like much of the district it has close cultural ties with neighbouring Tamil Nadu.
A Pudunagaram map poster shows a settlement that has grown out of its landscape rather than being imposed on it. The winding roads and irregular clusters give the print an organic feel. The rural surroundings then leave plenty of open space around the town.

Rice lowlands
Paddy land surrounds the town on most sides. On the poster it appears as broad open space broken by thin lines of channels and tracks.
Clustered centre
The busiest part of town gathers where several roads meet. It forms a denser knot of lines that works as the natural focal point of the print.
