Rab Map Poster
Rab lies in the Kvarner Gulf off the Croatian coast, a long island running northwest to southeast alongside the Velebit mountains. Its northeastern side faces the cold bora wind and is mostly bare limestone. The southwestern side is green with pine and holm oak. On the map this shows as an almost empty ridge on one side and a denser band of roads and villages on the other.
Rab town, the island's historic centre, sits on a narrow peninsula between two bays. Its old streets run in three long parallel lines down the peninsula, crossed by short, steep lanes, and four bell towers rise above the roofs. A Rab map poster shows this tight, linear core clearly, with the harbour on one side and a small wooded park on the other.
Beyond the town, the island is known for its beaches. At Lopar in the north, shallow sandy bays stand out on a coast that is mostly rock and pebble. Rab has also long been linked with naturism: in 1936 Edward VIII is said to have swum here with Wallis Simpson. On the western Kalifront peninsula, the Dundo forest protects an old holm oak wood.

Lopar's sandy bays
The northern peninsula of Lopar curves around shallow, fine-sand bays, including the well-known Paradise Beach. Their smooth, rounded outlines differ from the rest of the rocky coast.
Kalifront peninsula
A wooded peninsula on the west coast, largely protected and with few roads, edged by many small coves. It gives the map a quiet, scalloped edge opposite the barer eastern ridge.
