Ramanattukara lies on the southern approaches to Kozhikode, where several important roads come together. From above, the town's main feature is this junction: highways meeting at a central point, with smaller lanes branching out into residential areas and green plots. The Chaliyar river runs nearby, and its broad lower course shapes the landscape to the west.
The town's position has made it a transit point in northern Kerala. Calicut International Airport and the University of Calicut are both within easy reach, and the town serves travellers, students and commuters. Its growth has followed the roads, spreading outward in a loose, suburban pattern typical of the Malabar coast.
