Riacho de Santana is a municipality in the southwest of Bahia, in Brazil's semi-arid interior. The town itself is modest in size, and from above its streets form a fairly regular pattern of blocks set within a much larger territory of scrubland, pasture and scattered farms.
The map shows how quickly the built-up area gives way to the countryside. Roads leave the town in several directions, straight for long stretches and then bending with the terrain, while small watercourses and dry streambeds trace faint lines across the landscape.
