Rowlett lies northeast of Dallas, spread along the eastern side of Lake Ray Hubbard, a large reservoir on the East Fork of the Trinity River. On a map, the water dominates the western edge of the city, its shoreline broken by coves and peninsulas that residential streets wrap around. Inland, the pattern is classic Texas suburbia: loops, cul-de-sacs and long arterial roads.
Interstate 30 crosses the lake along the city's southern edge, drawing a long straight line over the water, and the President George Bush Turnpike threads through the western side of town. Rowlett is also the eastern terminus of the DART Blue Line, with a station in its small downtown that links the city by rail to Garland and central Dallas.
