Sachsenheim lies in the Ludwigsburg district of Baden-Württemberg, north-west of Stuttgart, in rolling countryside of vineyards, orchards and arable land. The town is made up of several former villages, including Großsachsenheim and Kleinsachsenheim, each with its own compact centre. On a map they appear as a group of distinct settlements linked by country roads, rather than a single continuous town.
The centre of Großsachsenheim is marked by its Wasserschloss, a moated castle that today houses the town hall. Around it the old streets curve in a tight, irregular pattern, while newer residential areas spread in more regular blocks toward the fields. A railway line crosses the area, and small streams run through the valleys between the villages.
