Samālka is an urban village in southwest Delhi, close to Indira Gandhi International Airport. Like many of Delhi's urbanised villages, its map shows a sharp contrast: a very dense core of narrow, irregular lanes surrounded by wide planned roads, highways and large blocks of institutional and airport land.
The village fabric is intricate, with small plots and short passages that twist and branch. Around it, the major roads that connect the airport with Gurugram and the rest of the city run in long, confident lines, and the airfield itself introduces broad open areas and straight runway edges.
