San Luis lies in the Santa Bárbara Department of western Honduras, in hilly country where valleys and ridges shape every road. From above, the town is a cluster of streets on uneven ground, with a small central grid that loosens quickly as it meets the slopes. Roads wind outward toward villages and farms in the surrounding hills.
The centre follows the pattern common in Honduran towns: a main plaza and church, with commercial and residential streets arranged around them. Beyond this core, houses spread along the roads rather than in regular blocks, following the contours of the land.
