San Pedro de Copán lies in the Copán Department in western Honduras, in hilly country near the borders with Guatemala. The town is small, and its streets form a modest cluster set within a landscape of slopes and valleys. From above, the built area is compact, and much of the surrounding map is open ground.
In mountainous terrain like this, roads rarely run straight. They follow valleys, bend around hills and connect scattered villages and farms. On a print, the town appears as a small, dense knot of streets with thin, winding lines leading away into the hills.
