Sausar is a town in Chhindwara district, in the south of Madhya Pradesh, close to the Maharashtra border. It lies in the fertile country at the southern foot of the Satpura hills, where farmland stretches towards the Nagpur plain. The surrounding area is known for agriculture, including the citrus orchards that are common in this part of central India.
From above, Sausar is a compact town. Its older centre is a cluster of lanes and markets, and newer areas spread out along the main roads. A river runs near the town and its banks mark a clear line through the landscape. Beyond the built-up area, fields and orchards form a patchwork broken by village roads.
