Selouane lies in northeastern Morocco, a short distance south of Nador, on a broad plain between low hills and the Mediterranean coast. On a map the town appears as a compact grid of streets with main roads running north to Nador and south toward the interior, surrounded by farmland and scattered settlements.
The town's historic landmark is its old kasbah, a walled fortification whose rectangular outline still stands near the centre. The wider area has grown alongside Nador, and the Marchica lagoon, one of the largest lagoons on the Mediterranean coast of Morocco, lies to the north beyond the city.
