Sereď lies in the Trnava Region of western Slovakia, on the Váh as it crosses the Danubian Lowland toward the Danube. The river is the first thing you notice on the map. It runs along the town's edge and has shaped where roads meet it and where the town has grown.
Away from the Váh, the streets spread across ground that is almost completely flat. You can see an older core, later housing districts and wider industrial and rail areas at the edges. Beyond the town, the map opens onto large cultivated fields cut by straight rural roads, which is typical of this farming region.
The town is also a place of memory. A wartime camp near Sereď is now the site of a Holocaust museum, one of the most important in Slovakia. A Sereď map poster shows the town's everyday layout: a river crossing, a lowland grid and the fields that surround it.
