Shonē is a town in the Central Ethiopia Regional State, in the southern part of the Ethiopian highlands. It serves as a local centre for the surrounding rural area, where much of the population lives on small farms. On a map the town reads as a modest cluster of streets with a main road running through it and fields on every side.
The street pattern is informal and irregular in places, with a denser core near the main road and looser lanes branching outward. Paths and tracks lead away into cultivated countryside, where homesteads are spread across the land rather than gathered into tight villages. This gives the edges of the map a soft, dotted quality instead of a hard boundary.
