Srīnivāspur is a town in Kolar district, in the south-eastern corner of Karnataka near the Andhra Pradesh border. It is widely known for its mangoes, and orchards cover much of the landscape around it. On a map, the town is a dense, irregular cluster of streets, with roads radiating out toward surrounding villages and toward Kolar, the district headquarters.
The Kolar plateau is dry, and for centuries farmers here have relied on tanks, shallow reservoirs made by damming seasonal streams. On the map they appear as scattered, irregular patches of water among the fields and orchards, sometimes linked in chains.
