Strakonice Map Poster & Print
Strakonice grew at the confluence of the Otava and the Volyňka in South Bohemia, and the rivers still organise the town. On a map the two waterways converge in a clear Y shape. The castle stands on the ground near their meeting point, the historic centre lies just beside it, and later districts spread across both banks, linked by several bridges.
The castle was long associated with the Knights of the Order of St John, and its round tower, known as Rumpál, is a local landmark. The town is also known for industry, notably the ČZ works, historically famous for motorcycles, and for fez production. It hosts an international bagpipe festival that reflects the strong piping tradition of the region.
