Sunel lies in Jhalawar district in the southeastern corner of Rajasthan, close to the border with Madhya Pradesh. It is a compact town. Its older centre is a knot of narrow lanes and closely built houses, while roads run out through farmland towards neighbouring villages and the district towns.
This part of Rajasthan is greener than the desert west. Fields, water tanks and scattered trees surround the settlement. The map shows a clear edge between the dense core and the cultivated land around it, with only a few ribbons of newer buildings stretching out along the main roads.
