Takhatgarh is a town in Pali district, in southern Rajasthan. The land around it is semi-arid, with open plains broken by the granite hills of the Aravalli foothills. The wider area is known for the Jawai reservoir and the rocky country around it, where leopards live alongside farming villages. On a map, Takhatgarh itself is a compact settlement with tight, winding lanes.
The old town is a close network of narrow streets, typical of market towns in Marwar. It opens out onto broader roads at its edges. Seasonal streams and field boundaries mark the land beyond, and the approach roads cut long lines across it.
