Tonggu Map Poster & Print
Tonggu is a town in north-eastern Chongqing, in the mountainous country north of the Yangtze where valleys cut deeply into the ridges. Settlements here tend to follow the valley floors and the roads that run along them, and Tonggu is no exception. On a map it forms a compact, elongated cluster of streets, framed by hills that leave little flat land for building.
The main streets run along the valley and its watercourse, with short side lanes climbing a little way up the slopes. Beyond the town, roads wind along the contours to reach villages higher in the hills and to link with larger towns in the district. Farmland occupies the gentler slopes, broken into small fields that follow the shape of the terrain.
