Tortuguitas lies in the outer suburbs north-west of Buenos Aires, near the Pan-American highway corridor. The land is flat, and from above the town is laid out in the familiar grid of the Buenos Aires suburbs, with regular blocks crossed by main avenues and the railway. The pattern loosens toward the edges, where open land and larger plots appear.
A distinctive element of the area is its gated neighbourhoods and country clubs, which appear on the map as enclosed areas with curving private streets, very different from the surrounding grid. The mix of ordinary blocks, highway, rail line and these green enclaves gives Tortuguitas a varied texture.
