Turilândia is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Maranhão, in the humid lowlands of the north of the state. The town is small, and on a map it appears as a short grid of streets set within a wide landscape of vegetation, farmland and water. Roads lead out in a few directions to link it with neighbouring municipalities and rural communities.
Northern Maranhão is a transition zone between the Amazon and the drier interior, and the land here is low, green and threaded with rivers and seasonal wetlands.
