Tuxpan sits in southern Jalisco, close to the border with Colima, on land that rises gradually toward the volcanic massif to the west. Seen from above, the town is a tight block pattern around a central square and church, the classic plan of Mexican towns laid out in the colonial era. Beyond the last streets the pattern loosens into fields, orchards and country roads that run out across the valley.
The town is known across the region for its religious festivals, when dancers in traditional costume fill the streets around the centre. It also keeps strong Indigenous roots, and older customs survive alongside the everyday life of a market town serving the surrounding farms. Much of the land around it is given over to agriculture, and the rhythm of planting and harvest shapes the countryside you see on the map.
A Tuxpan map poster reduces all of this to line and space: the dense square blocks of the centre, the thinner roads that leave town in several directions, and the watercourses that cut through the fields.
