Ulundurpet is a town in Kallakurichi district, in the interior of northern Tamil Nadu. Travellers know it best as a junction. The main highway between Chennai and Tiruchirappalli passes here, and a major road branches off westward toward Salem. Buses, lorries and roadside eateries have long made it a familiar stop on journeys through the state.
On the map, those two roads give the town its structure. Shops and services line the highway, while older residential lanes sit a little back from the traffic. At the edges, the built-up area loosens into paddy fields, irrigation tanks and small villages, the typical landscape of the plains of inland northern Tamil Nadu.
