Umirim is a small municipality in northern Ceará, in north-eastern Brazil, inland from the Atlantic coast. The map shows a compact urban centre built on a mostly regular street grid. Blocks of low houses surround a central area, and main roads lead out toward neighbouring towns and the wider state road network.
The surrounding landscape is typical of the Ceará interior: semi-arid ground, patches of caatinga scrub, and small farms that depend on the short rainy season. Streams that flow for only part of the year cross the land, and small reservoirs and ponds, important for storing water, appear as scattered shapes around the town.
