Vaihingen an der Enz is in Baden-Württemberg, north-west of Stuttgart, in the Ludwigsburg district. As the name says, the Enz river defines it. On a map the river loops through the valley, and the old town sits compactly beside it, with narrow lanes gathered below the hillside. Newer districts and surrounding villages stretch out across the higher ground.
