Vaikam Map Poster & Print
Vaikam, often spelled Vaikom, sits on the eastern shore of Vembanad Lake in Kottayam district, Kerala. On a map its western edge is defined by water: the broad lake on one side and a web of backwater channels and canals threading inland. The town's streets stay close to that shoreline, with lanes branching off between houses and palms.
At the centre is the Vaikom Mahadeva Temple, one of the best-known temples in Kerala. The town is also remembered for the Vaikom Satyagraha of 1924 and 1925, a campaign for the right of all castes to use the roads around the temple. It became a milestone in India's social reform movement.
A Vaikam map poster brings together lake, canals and streets in one frame. The large open shape of Vembanad contrasts with the fine network of channels and lanes on land, giving the composition both calm and detail. It is a map about the meeting of town and water.

Narrow channels cut inland from the lake, weaving between plots and roads and adding fine curving lines to the map.
Temple roads
The streets around the Mahadeva Temple are at the heart of town and central to the history of the Vaikom Satyagraha.

Vaikamを選ぶ理由
想いが詰まった地図
Vaikam carries meaning for pilgrims, for families from Kottayam district and for anyone who knows the story of the Satyagraha. A map of its streets and water connects place and history without words.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, and choose one of five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint and Noir make the lake especially striking.
