Venlo Map Poster & Print
Venlo lies in the north of Dutch Limburg, on the river Meuse and only a few kilometres from the German border. The river runs north to south through the city, and the map is organised around it. The historic centre sits on the east bank, while the district of Blerick lies opposite on the west bank, connected by road and rail bridges.
The old town is compact, with narrow streets surrounding the market square and town hall. Venlo was a fortified city for centuries, and the curves of the former defences can still be traced in the streets around the centre. On a Venlo map poster, this dense core contrasts with the open curve of the river beside it.
Beyond the centre, the city spreads into residential areas, business parks and greenhouses, reflecting its role as a logistics and horticultural hub. In 2012 Venlo hosted the Floriade, the international horticultural exhibition. With the Meuse, its bridges and a border close by, the city has a clear and balanced plan.
