Vrouo lies in the Sassandra-Marahoué district of central-western Ivory Coast, a farming region shaped by plantations, food crops and a network of rural roads. Little detailed information about the town has been published, so the map itself does most of the describing. It shows a cluster of lanes and compounds, a few main roads, and the open land around them.
Settlements in this part of the country tend to grow along roads. Houses and courtyards sit close together near the centre and spread out toward the fields. On a black-and-white poster that produces an unplanned, natural pattern, very different from the grids of colonial or modern towns. Tracks leading into the countryside become fine lines reaching toward the edges.
