Wakaf Baharu is a town in Kelantan, in north-eastern Peninsular Malaysia, on the west bank of the Kelantan river opposite the state capital, Kota Bharu. Its railway station, on the East Coast Line, is the nearest main-line stop for Kota Bharu, and for many travellers it has long been the gateway to the city.
From above, the town follows its main roads and the railway, with houses and shops lined along them and kampung settlements spread out behind. Paddy fields, orchards and small plots fill the flat land between settlements, and the wide river forms a strong edge to the east, with bridges linking the two banks.
