West Torrington covers the western side of the Torrington area in Litchfield County, in the hilly northwest corner of Connecticut. Its map is typical of the region: roads follow the valleys and the curves of the hills rather than a grid, residential streets loop through wooded slopes, and the houses sit more loosely the farther out you go.
Water is a quiet presence in the plan. Streams and a branch of the Naugatuck River drain these hills, and the roads often run beside them, since the valley floors were the easiest routes to build.
