Wilkinsburg is a borough that borders the city of Pittsburgh to the east, and on a map it looks like a continuation of the city's dense residential fabric. Streets run in short, tight blocks over rolling ground, and Penn Avenue, the main commercial spine, crosses the borough from end to end.
A long transport corridor slices through the middle of town. There is the railroad and, beside it, the Martin Luther King Jr. East Busway, one of the region's dedicated bus routes to downtown Pittsburgh. Its curving line through the grid is the most distinctive feature of the map, dividing the borough into northern and southern halves.
