Xinglong is a town in the Chongqing municipality in southwestern China, in a region shaped by hills, ridges and river valleys. On the map, the built-up area follows the lie of the land: streets run along the valley floor and curve with the slopes rather than forming a regular grid.
This part of Chongqing is largely rural, with farmland terraced into the hillsides and small settlements linked by winding roads. The town serves as a local centre for the surrounding villages, and its shape reflects the practical way settlements have grown in the region, stretching where the ground allows.
