Yadagirigutta lies in Telangana, roughly an hour's drive north-east of Hyderabad. The town is defined by its hill, on which stands the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple, an important pilgrimage site. The temple complex was extensively rebuilt in recent years in stone, and it now dominates the hilltop.
On a map the hill appears as a raised centre with access roads winding upwards, while the town spreads around its base. Wide approach roads, parking areas and facilities for pilgrims reflect the number of visitors, especially on festival days.
