Yeyuan is a town in the hill country of central Shandong, where the flat North China Plain begins to break into low ridges and valleys. From above, its built area is compact. A handful of main roads cross near the centre, and around them lies a looser mesh of lanes that thins quickly at the edges.
Past the last blocks, the map turns to terraced fields, orchards and village clusters strung along valley roads. Contour-following tracks and small watercourses bring a quieter texture than the town core, and in wider framings the surrounding uplands become part of the picture.
